This summer at Positive Tomorrows, eight students between first and fifth grade were selected to participate in a weeklong artist workshop so they could spend dedicated studio time working on projects for this exhibition. These students were chosen for the skills and creativity they exhibited during the 2017-2018 school year, as well as for their persistence in trying and creating new things. The children were encouraged to use new mediums and sharpen existing skills and interests. They picked their own art supplies, planned their projects and encouraged one another as they progressed in their pieces. From landscape paintings and rainbow charcoal sketches to experimentation with clay, all of our emerging artists thought way outside the box!
Oklahoma Contemporary is delighted to partner with Positive Tomorrows -- with the assistance of Inclusion in Art -- to highlight some of the artwork done by their students. Positive Tomorrows is Oklahoma's only elementary school specifically for homeless children. Their goal is to give kids stability and a quality education while their parents get the support they need to create a better life.
